Saturday, March 1: Destination Twin Falls, ID

We were up at 4 AM to finish loading the truck and get on the road to meet our friends in Purdy by 5 AM.  Our mileage reading was 59156, gas was $3.90/gal for diesel and the temp was 41* We got over Snoqualmie Pass with no issues though several feet of snow has fallen in the last 10 days or so. The breakfast break was in Cle Elum. From there, we drove East on I-90 to I-84 down into Oregon, over the 4,000' Blue Mountains and the 6,000' Elkhorn Range on the other side of Pendleton. Excitement mounted as we began to see the tractor trailer trucks lined along the road chaining up and then the wrecked truck rig in the ditch. The climb over the passes was windy, slow and slippery.  Thank goodness for 4 wheel drive. Temperature was in the low 20s with snow falling and at times, the fog was thick.  In Baker City, OR, we stopped for lunch. Our vehicles were quite dirty from the sand and salt.  The weather improved with temps in the high 50s by the time we got closer to Idaho.

Our first day destination was Twin Falls, ID, 666 miles from home . (Should we have gone one more mile for good luck??) We got a hotel, walked over unlit sidewalk construction to a restaurant for dinner and relaxation. Sonny headed for the hot tub after dinner but the pool area was full of screaming youngsters and there weren't any towels so we watched TV.

Wintry travel in competition with those big trucks

Interesting fog in the valleys

Baker City, OR  My driver by his dirty truck.  It took several
washes to clean it up.
