NM Rt 380 took us through Tatum to Plains, TX. At Post, TX, we turned South on 84 to Sweetwater and followed I-20 to Abilene, TX. Texas and New Mexico continued to have picnic areas along the route with shelter, table and garbage can but no potty. What do people do???! There were many oil derricks pumping and we could smell the methane gas from time to time. Wouldn't it be nice to have our own oil derrick in the yard! We listened to CDs from Sonny's collection of Johnny Cash and laughed at Bob Marley (the comedian). There was a stretch of telephone poles that had platforms intentionally built on them for the raptors to build nests. There were large nests on every platform but no birds were around this time of year. There were homes along the way but many were run down and often vacant.
