St Augustine from the trolley tour

64883      164 miles  86*   Blue sky

We like to find the local Trolley Company for the informational city tours.  The St Augustine tour also connected to a beach shuttle. Sonny and I were here 40 years ago (when he was in the Navy) and tried unsuccessfully to recall what we had seen then.  The fort Ranger told us that there had been water in the moat until the 1990s when the history folks decided there wasn't moat water in the 1500s.  I was sure we had visited a tavern with an interior water fall for air conditioning but that wasn't to be found on this trip.  At 4 PM, we decided we had seen all that we could see so we took US Rt 1 to 295 around Jacksonville then I-95 to Richmond Hill, GA for a night's stay at the Econo Lodge. Cheap but a good bed.

Waiting with the Sheriff for our ride at the Trolley Station

We're on board. We sat in the third car but regretted it
later as it took the bumps pretty hard.

Small, inviting patio eating area

Narrow, cobble stone streets

The curved area is the Flagler College cafeteria and the glass in the windows
is curved to fit the frame.  This building was once the Ponce de Leon
Hotel, built by Flagler when he needed a place for friends to stay
when they visited.

Distilling is a new industry along with a local winery.

This empty house needed an owner and some TLC

I spotted this truck and chased it around the block to get
a picture.  Lobster from Maine! (though I see that
phone number isn't' a Maine area code.)

We caught the beach shuttle and had an hour to spend in
the sun. This jelly fish isn't the man 'o war that we've
seen on other beaches but we aren't sure what it is.

Parking on the beach makes more space in town plus you don't have
so far to carry your beach gear!

There were a couple guys trying to surf out there.

This gal was doing catch and release.

Funky beach house

Boundary wall
We caught the trolley and finished the tour.  This is a close up of
a boundary wall made of shells and plaster.
The canon squad is preparing to fire the canons from
Castillo de San Marcos.

This live oak is called "The Old Senator" and is believed to be over
600 years old.

Returning to the station.  This is the hanging platform behind the jail.

Peanut butter and crackers outside our room at the
Econo Lodge on a warm evening.
